Sorting Leaves
This activity can be done two ways.
1. Collect different leaves for the kids to sort.
2. Buy different leaf die cuts (or bulletin board accents) for the kids to sort.
You can sort by size, shape or color.

Why Do Leaves Change Colors?
This is a better book for older kids (2nd grade and up) because it gives the science behind why leaves
change color.

Activities for Leaf Die Cuts
If you work in a school, utilize your die cut machine! Otherwise, buy leaf bulletin board accents-usually
come in a package of 36- at a teacher store. I use them for EVERYTHING! Put numbers on them and use them for articulation.
The number on the leaf is the number of repetitions. Spread them out and put language cards under them. For
every correct answer, that is how many points are earned. You can also use them to teach positions.

Take a Leaf Walk
If you are able to, take the kids outside for a leaf walk. Talk about each of the leaves the kids find. Things
you can discuss are:
-
Similarities and differences between the leaves
-
Address "I" at the beginning of sentences by having the kids say "I found a leaf."
-
Practice using irregular past tense ("found") and irregular plurals ("leaves") in sentences for carryover
-
Where did the kids find the leaves? Good time to work on "where" questions and positional terms
